Benjamin Spierman directs IL TABARRO after helming the NSMF’s productions of DON PASQUALE, PAGLIACCI and THE BARBER OF SEVILLE. Recently, he directed LE NOZZE DI FIGARO for Opera Breve in Wichita Falls, TX, and made his debut with Florida’s St. Petersburg Opera with Strauss’ ARIADNE AUF NAXOS. Other recent work includes Rossini’s rarely produced LA GAZZA LADRA for Bronx Opera; FALSTAFF at Rutgers University; LA TRAVIATA for the Buck Hill – Skytop Music Festival and Mozart’s THE IMPRESARIO and Rossini’s IL SIGNOR BRUSCHINO at SUNY Potsdam. Other highlights include Massenet’s CENDRILLON for Rutgers in January 2012; TURANDOT (Dayton Opera); THE MERRY WIDOW (Indianapolis Opera) and DON GIOVANNI (Amarillo Opera). Upcoming, he will return to St. Petersburg to direct Gounod’s ROMEO ET JULIETTE and will direct the East Coast premiere of Kirke Mechem’s 2011 opera THE RIVALS for Bronx Opera. Benjamin Spierman is a native and resident of The Bronx, where he lives with his wife, Soprano Hannah Spierman.
