Soprano Allison Pohl made her professional debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Maestro Stephen Lord at Boston Lyric Opera. In the 2013 season, she will debut with Opera in the Heights in Houston, Texas as Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff and she’ll return to Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival and North Shore Music festival as Una Amante in Il Tabarro and as a concert soloist. Recently, Allison appeared as Juliette in scenes from Romeo et Juliette in Poor Richard Opera’s concert series “Romeos and their Juliets” in Philadelphia. She is a 2013 and 2011 Liederkranz Competition (Opera Division) finalist.
2012 took Allison on a ten-city concert tour of China where she sang Violetta in the opening scene of La Traviata with the Camerata Philadelphia. Soon after, she returned to Opera on the James for its “Love Makes The World Go ‘Round” concert series and returned to Garden State Philharmonic as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem. In May she debuted with Bronx Opera as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel. In July she returned to North Shore Music Festival as Rosina in The Barber of Seville and appears as a festival resident artist at Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival in the Poconos where she will also perform Flora and cover Violetta in La Traviata.
Allison kicked off the 2011 season as a soloist in One World Symphony’s Nordic Lights concert, singing Sibelius’ “Norden” and the New York City premiere of Saariaho’s “Parfum de l’instant“. She then joined Opera on the James as a Tyler Young Artist and covered the role of Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. As a featured soloist in a new multi-media production of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen with Big Apple Baroque, she sang the famous arias of Night and The Plaint, and as part of this production made her film acting debut in a short film by Seth Fragomen. Allison performed her first Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with Atlantic Coast Opera Festival and her firstNorina in Don Pasquale with North Shore Music Festival. She then appeared as the Soprano Soloist in the Garden State Philharmonic’s Opening Night Gala “Opera in the Movies“. She is a 2011 Liederkranz Competition (Opera Division) finalist.
In 2010 she sang her first Adele in Die Fledermaus with One World Symphony in New York City and made her debut with Big Apple Baroque singing the role of Mary Magdalene in Handel’s La Resurrezione. Allison joined the Opera Saratoga roster as a Resident Artist in the winter and as an Apprentice Artist in the summer of 2010. There she performed Frasquita in Carmen, was a featured soloist in Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma, and Mr. Swine/Little Red Riding Hood in the premiere workshop of Curt Tucker’s opera The Trial of B.B.Wolf.
The 2009 season took Allison to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to sing Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone with Opera Coeur d’Alene. She also appeared asBelinda in Dido and Aeneas with Opera Meraviglia with performances in New York City and as part of the Boston Early Music Festival. Allison coveredAdele and performed Sally in Die Fledermaus with Opera New Jersey with a star-studded cast.
Allison performed Jou-jou and covered Valencienne in The Merry Widow as a Studio Artist with Opera New Jersey in the 2008 season. Also in 2008, Allison performed the role of Giannetta and covered the role of Adina in L’elisir d’Amore with Virginia Opera. During the 2007-2008 season, she was a Virginia Opera Spectrum Resident Artist and covered the roles of The Four Heroines in Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Tatiana in Eugene Onegin. She also performed the title role in Pinocchio for Virginia Opera’s Family Day and many roles including Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with Virginia Opera Education & Outreach.
Allison has performed such roles as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica, Vera in Hoiby’s A Month in the Country, Noémie inCendrillon, Bessie/Yvette in Weill’s Youkali and Mahagonny Songspiel, and Sandmann in Hänsel und Gretel. She also covered the role of Musetta inLa Bohème. In 2007 Allison was selected by Simon Estes to sing the title role in Pergolesi’s La Conversione di Guglielmo with Orchestra Gemigniani in Tuscany, Italy. In 2006 she was a finalist in the Lotte Lenya Competition for Singers.
Allison received her Master of Music degree from Boston University in 2007 and her Bachelor of Music degree from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music in 2005. She lives in New York City.
